Apple-tini – My Winter Indulgence

November 17, 2012 by admin

Now if you have told me a few weeks ago that I would be begging The Essex Husband to take me Frankie and Bennys on our ‘night off’ tonight I would have called you crazy.  Meals at our local branch of this chain have been hit and miss over the years and I much prefer eating in town than on the busy roundabout where this particular restaurant is located.  However my mother and I took the girls there for an early evening ‘kids eat free’ special a few weeks back and I made a discovery.  Frankie and Bennys do amazing cocktails. Who’d have known it??

Introducing my new obsession……

Apple-tini

Eristoff vodka, apple schnapps, pressed apple juice and gingerbread syrup. £4.95

It was the gingerbread syrup that did it for me – who knew this wonder existed? The drink tastes like Christmas heaven in a glass and smells spiced apple perfection.  Its simply gorgeous. Just sitting here thinking about it has got me checking the time to see if I have missed last orders or if I could make a mad dash down there now to have a night-cap.

It’s only 9.30pm…..so i’m off to get my coat….don’t wait up!

Can healthy be tasty? #wwback2best

In a word – yes.

Now I not going to sit here and say that a bag of Brussels sprouts tastes better than a bar of Green and Blacks, but just because I am now trying out this ‘healthy living’ malkery doesn’t mean I have had to give up all the fun in life.

For me the key to this new ‘good life, good shape’ regime I have going on is moderation and self-control. A pita filled with rocket, 2 teaspoons of goats cheese and a splash of balsamic vinegar or a wrap with roasted peppers and 2 teaspoons of  tzatziki makes for a delicious yet healthy lunch instead of 2 rolls smothered in butter and stuffed with high fat cheddar cheese and a bag of crisps.

Snacks are my weakness. Cake, and chocolate, and biscuits and…..well I think you get the picture.  So for me finding alternatives for this was a big thing in my pursuit of weight-loss, but what I have found after the past 6 weeks is that it’s actually easier to just live without them.  Eating enough at the correct times had removed my need to snack.  If I do fancy treating myself though I find a bar of dark chocolate (it is full of anti-oxidants after all) works well as normally 2 squares if enough to satisfy my sweet tooth.  My current personal favorite is Green and Blacks salted caramel flavor.

So yes a little of what you like does you good, but finding healthy alternatives can be easier than you think. You may find, like I have, that new ‘healthy’ food you swap to actually end up tasting better than the bad habits you leave behind.

Weight Watchers Thai Vegetable Broth

November 15, 2012 by admin

As part of my #wwback2best challenge we were sent the wonderful Weight Watchers Complete Kitchen Cookbook and asked to try out recipes as part of our new healthy eating.

Well ladies and gentleman I have found my hands down winner from the books and that is the Weight Watchers Thai Vegetable Broth aka the best Thai soup I’ve ever made!

It went down a storm with The Essex Husband and with my mother.  The children also like it, but I have had to reduce the chilli for them as the recipe pack a fair punch in the mouth burning stakes!

The soup is packed full of flavor and tastes so fresh, but the best part is the amount of vegetables in it fills me up, and for 1 point a serving I could eat it all day long. Win win!

The Weight Watchers Complete Kitchen Cookbook is currently on offer for 50% off on the Weight Watchers website at a very tasty price of £8.45
