I have it the bullet and joined a gym.

Me? At the gym?? I KNOW!!

So now, £45 a month later, I am desperate to find the best ideas for how to get the most from your gym membership.

How To Get The Most From Your Gym Membership

Do Something You Love – The first way to get the most from your gym membership is to ensure you are doing something you love. I’m a classes girl, not so much a fan of going it alone on the big old scary gym floor. Plan the classes to take part in each week and build your week around them, this way you can remove as many excuses to avoid them as possible.

Get Competitive – Look for someone on the treadmill, bike, or cross-trainer who is clearly working hard. Try to run a little faster or stay on the machine a little longer than them, making sure you stay within your limits of course (and don’t end up looking like a stalker).

Combine Classes/Workouts – Try not to go to the gym for just one thing. Do back to back classes (many gyms will plan their timetable so they have cardio sessions followed by low impact/toning sessions such a yoga) or have a swim after your workout. Making the most of your time will help you reach your goals quicker.

Set Goals – This leads me to the most important thing when working out how to get the most from your gym membership, goal setting. Know where you want to be and work out how to get there. Most gyms will do an induction session with you when you join, don’t be afraid to use this time to ask the staff for advice on your workouts and sessions.

Get A Trainer – Finally, the most time effective (but not always cost effective) way to get the most from your gym membership is to get a personal trainer. They will advise you on your workouts, keep you on track and help to motivate you with their endless enthusiasm and to die for bodies.

There are many more ways to get the most from your gym membership – but these are just a few to keep newbies like us on track. Good luck with your fitness journeys.
