A long time ago, back when I first starting blogging, I would look round the room at events to see people happily chatting together like old friends and I couldn’t help but wonder how they could ever be so close to someone they had got to know online. Surely online friends weren’t real friends? You don’t really know them do you? I mean you’ve never made them a cup of tea, you don’t know what their house looks like, you may not always even be able to remember their ‘real’ name. How on Earth could you really call yourself friends?
How naive I was.
The thing is blogging friends, real blogging friends, don’t stay blogging friends for long. You become just ‘friends’. No pre definition to the relationship needed. There is no need to define how or when you met. You are you and they are them, and together you make a great team.
I have many blogging colleagues who I think very highly of. I love their company, their wit. their intelligence. I hope that over time I will be able to call them friends. Proper, real-life life, call them up drunk at 1am to tell them a funny story, friends.
For now I just have two. Two friends who, that even though we may have met through blogging, are now my girls. Our menfolk get on, our children get on and we, well there is no words for how well we get on. They are simply awesome.
I have said yes to so many more opportunities because I know they will be there by my side. We support each other, complement each other, and, more often than not get drunk with each other.
This week was a perfect example. Invited to London for the premier of Ibis’s Ultimate Sleep Exhibition, Ruth and I jumped at the opportunity to have an evening out sans children. And what an evening it was. I learnt three things Wednesday night. Ruth is hilarious after a few cocktails, I can network a hell of a lot better with slightly liquored-up and finally, and most importantly, I cannot drink I used to!
Next week brings along many more opportunities for Ruth, Katy and myself to get together. We have breakfast events, lunch dates and even a West End Show booked in the diary. I am so glad I have met them and they we have formed the bond we have, they are amazing….and I am proud to call them friends.
Roll on next week.
Awwww this is lovely. I’m so jealous that you get to see each other so often. My “blogging besties” are all too far away and spread out, which is why I love Britmums Live so much!
Enjoy your breakfasts/lunches and West End show. How exciting xx
I love this post Alice! And I LOVE blogging so much more now that I have met my gorgeous pals! Roll on some more fun times! Xxxx
