Tips For Making New Years Resolutions (and sticking to them)

Set Small Goals – Saying I am going to lose 4 stone this year is not helpful to anyone. Chose realistic goals, like exercising twice a week or swapping your bacon sandwich for a smoothie each morning – lots of little things are easier to stick to than one big goal, you will also have more of an achievement each time you complete them.

Take It One Step At A Time - Unhealthy habits develop over long periods  of time. Trying to replacing all current behaviors with new ones at once will only set you up to fail. Don’t get overwhelmed and try to reassess everything in your life at once just because it’s a new year. Take it slow and build new habits over the next few months, this way they are much more likely to stick.

Write Them Down – Having them in your diary, stuck to the fridge or even on a blog, will certainly help you stick to them. Maybe even find a group of like-minded people with similar goals and start a Facebook group where you can discuss tips and help encourage each other.

Record Your Achievements – Set small achievable goals then record them as you go. Mark it in the diary when you buy a dress is a lower size, make a photo-book of pictures from the sky-dive you completed or keep a well-being journal so you can see how your fitness levels improve or how your eating habits have evolved. Seeing that you are making positive changes and sticking to your goals will help to keep you motivated and on track.

Ask For Help – You can’t change the world alone. Get friends and family involved in helping keep you on task, you may even inspire them to make positive changes for themselves as well.

So there we have it, those are our top tips for making New Years Resolutions (and sticking to them) – Here’s to a happy, healthy and successful 2014.
