The sun is shining and the schools have broken up, this can only mean one thing; all thoughts turn to summer holidays.  A two week break in the sunshine with the family to just relax and make memories, what could be better?

I have dreams of taking my children all over the world. I want them to see and experience as many different cultures and sights as possible as they grow.

One such place I’d love to take them is the Caribbean, but I have always wondered if it is a suitable destination for little ones. Jane Blackmore is here to share with us why she thinks it is…

With gorgeous white beaches, pale blue waters, coral reefs, and an abundance of musical culture. Who wouldn’t want to go spend a couple of weeks in the Caribbean, playing on the beach by day and sipping cocktails listening to the tunes of Bob Marley in an evening.

It simply sounds heavenly.

But should you take the kids?

In short, yes; the Caribbean is an amazing family destination.  The kids will adore snorkelling through a mind bogglingly beautiful coral reef.  You can take them hiking through a cloud forest. Take a submarine tour through the wrecks of fallen ships and watch them gaze in wonder at the sunken sights.

It will be the holiday of their dreams.

One of the best ways to sample the full range of Caribbean delights is to cruise round the Islands.  Finding the best deals online will allow you to taste different Islands and also keep the children entertained on board the ship.

Cruises are great for families because they are prepared to entertain the little ones and the big ones.  Family based cruise lines have so much on board to keep the whole family happy, from Olympic sized swimming pools to kids clubs and even water parks.

5 awesome activities you must do with the kids whilst cruising the Caribbean

  • Swim with dolphins in the Bahamas.  A once in a lifetime experience that your children will never forget.  Swim, cuddle and play with bottlenosed dolphins and make magical memories for the entire family.
  • Go looking for humpback whales in the Dominican Republic.  Sail along the ocean in search of these beautiful creatures swimming wild and free.
  • Visit the Pirate Museum in Nassau, learn the history of pirate culture and let the small ones board and play on a real replica ship.
  • Take a Jeep safari around Barbados, gasp at the flying fish and keep a keen eye out for the Barbados Green monkey.
  • Ride across the bright white shores on horseback at sunset.
