Blogger’s Are Generous to Charitable Causes

Today I have guest post for you from Jane Blackmore, ablogger, writer and editor.  She is passionate about fundraising and keen to make a difference in her short stint in the world. As I am currently working with Cancer Research to organise a team of blogger to enter a charity event, I thought Jane would be in a great position to give me some pointers into the world of mixing blogging with fundraising.

Charitable fundraising begins at home. This is very true of the blogging community.

I remember when I ran a marathon for my friend’s son who had leukaemia. The blogging community rose up and supported me. Either through tweets or through sponsorship, many made their support clear. I was sponsored by men and women I had never met, and in some cases, I had not even spoken with them online.

I am hoping to run the London Marathon again next year, but this time for a more personal reason. My eldest daughter was diagnosed, aged six, as a Type 1 Diabetic. It has been life changing. Nine months on we are starting to cope with life again and I am ready to start raising money to fund research into this incurable condition.

2013 has already seen bloggers make incredible differences. The parent blogging community have raised fantastic amounts for charity. In particular, Team Honk is formed of Penny from Alexander Residence, Tanya from MummyBarrow, and the lovely Annie from Mammasaurus.

Team Honk became part of this year’s Comic Relief.

The three parent bloggers flew to Africa to celebrate 25 years of Comic Relief. Then they documented the success on their blogs, and many, many others joined in.

When Team Honk returned home the good work didn’t stop, ongoing fundraising has included a blogging trek up Snowdon, an epic bike ride and I am sure it doesn’t end there.

Running for Steps

Emma from Emmaand3 is currently in training for her first half marathon. Not known for her sporting prowess; she famously fell off a bike at recent blogging conference, Britmums.

Emma has decided to run to raise money for her beautiful daughter Erin, who suffers from hip dysplasia. I am passionate about the charity Emma is running for as my own little girl suffers from the same condition. When blogger Emma takes to the streets she will be raising money for Steps, you can find out more about her campaign here.  Please give generously.

Bloggers are awesome folk, give them a reason to campaign and watch them fall into action.  I have blogged for almost three years. When I see the difference the community can make to campaigns, I am incredibly proud to be a blogger.

Bloggers are awesome and this just shows some of the awesome charities they support. It is great as a blogger to give something back and use our online profiles to raise money and awareness.
