Gruffalo Hunt, Essex, Thorndon Country Park

If you are looking for a great day out in Essex with little ones then the Gruffalo Hunt at Thorndon Country Park is certainly for you.

Great for outdoor loving children. With tress to climb and woods to explore, and the added bonus of a real life Grufflao to hunt.

Standing pride of place in the middle of the woods, The Gruffalo is joined by Mouse, Snake, Owl, Fox and The Gruffalo’s Child, all ready and waiting to be found with the help of the free map available from the gift shop.

Costing only £2.20 for an all day car parking ticket (you will need change for this as it’s a pay and display machine) and no entry change to the Gruafflo hunt itself, this really is a low-cost family day out.

A small cafe can be found at the back of the gift shop and there are a number of picnic areas (one undercover for the more typically ‘British’ summer days) that can be utilised by visitors.

I would recommend visiting on a weekday, as the weekends can get extremely busy (the car park can be one in one out at times), but if peak times are the only ones available to you then ‘liking’ Thorndon County Park on Facebook is always a good idea, as they keep it up to date daily with how busy they are.

Thorndon is a big hit with my girls and all their little friends.  It’s such a simple idea that has grown into such an iconic Essex based visitor attraction.

I love the look of this. I think M would love to go. He’s just starting to interact with characters.

It is so much fun – and there are lots of other things to do locally as well. Essex is becoming quite the tourist destination! haha x

We loved the Gruffalo hunt at Thorndon when we went. The little guy was totally amazed. Definitely agree with going in the week, we did and basically had the woods to ourselves which was great for our very enthusiastic little Gruffalo fan. x
