You are never alone when you have books, or at least thats what I believed growing up as an only child. I may not have had siblings at home with me but that didn’t mean I couldn’t go on adventures with friends.  Solving mysteries with The Secret Seven, getting into trouble with My Naughty Little Sister, even going down drain with Flat Stanley…reading fuelled my imagination and never failed to make me feel happy.

Ever since I found out that I was going to me a mother I have dreamed of sharing books with my girls.  Pouring over the pages, reading the words aloud, savouring these ordinary moments that will shape their futures. Fortunately my girls adore books,  they will read and listen to story after story. Scarlett is flying through the reading stages at school, and I’m sure that is testament to the amount of books we shared in her formative years.

For some though the love of the written word does not come as standard.  Some family have other interests that keep them busy, and sitting down with a book is just not for them.  Luckily many schemes have been set up to allow all children to have access to books. One of these such agencies is The Scottish Book Trust.

The Scottish Book Trust was set up to promote literature, reading and writing to children and families across not only Scotland but the whole of the UK as well. The organisation works with writers, children, teachers, librarians and readers from all backgrounds to spread a love of books and reading.

In addition to the Book Trust, Scottish Friendly has been running a book tour far the last 14 years. This tour pairs the very best UK and international authors directly with schools across Scotland and England to inspire a love of reading, writing and illustration. They reach around 6,000 children every year, that a lot of book love shared.

I really do think this is a great idea and I know Scarlett would love something life this to reach her School. The children that are helped by the Scottish book trust are very lucky indeed.

I honestly believe that loving books helps you to love life itself.  And that is a passion we should never let fade.
