I have been a gym member for a month now.  It feels right to ask the question…..is it worth it?

Well in a word, YES!

I started off very enthusiastically….then life has started to get back in the way again.  I have found the past week the same old tired excuses are coming back.  Too much work on/not enough time/no childcare….they are being dusted off and thrown out there.  I am very disappointed in myself.

Two weeks ago I had a 1:1 session with a trainer (followed by two days being unable to walk) and it really showed me that I need help.  My motivation needs a kick up the backside and my workout ideas and use of gym equipment could do with being updated slightly (I trained as a gym instructor in 2005 – safe to say things have changed a little since then), I really think having a trainer once a week will be the way to go for me.

The one area in which I have committed though is my use of the pool.  I have always been a water baby, feeling happiest when in the pool, and those familiar feelings have flooded back since joining Nuffield Health. Cutting through the pool, feeling the cool water wash over my body, I can actually feel the outside world washing away.  I zone out, focus and reorganise my thoughts. Its half hour that really can realign me.

A new exercise kick deserves a new outfit (any excuse!) and this week I have been trialling out a rather gorgeous new piece from the Speedo Sculpture SS14 range. The Speedo Sculpture range is rather awesome in the ‘holding the body in and making you look super’ stakes.  My very favourite piece is the Simplyglow (I have it in emerald) mainly as I can finally look good while wearing a swimsuit durable and well designed enough to work out in.

It has worked wonders for my self-confidence – I am even brave enough now to leave my towel behind and bare all on the walk to the pool. #girlpower

Month two at the gym has to be a successful one as my birthday and Ibiza are nearing ever closer.

Wish me luck!

2 Thoughts on “The Gym……One Month On

  1. Classes. Book on them, they force you to go and soon you are in a routine. It’s good to try different things that push you in different ways. I work harder in classes, no doubt. I do a range of classes, so don’t get bored and they all achieve different things – one works on my endurance, one on my flexibility and balance, one on strength etc. I get bored and frustrated v quickly on the gym floor and I can’t afford personal training sessions (well at our gym anyway – they’re bloody extortionate, yet some of the PTs take some of the classes I do as part of my membership).

Good on you, Alice. I personally hate going to the gym, but am addicted to doing sports challenges. If you want a challenge try spinning classes, they are the hardest workout I have ever done. Swimming is the best exercises for all muscles, I have just done the swimathon as #teamhonkrelay. I love training for some challenge every winter which keeps me going during those long grey cold months. I am training for the Prague marathon now. Would love for you to join in my #fitnesstuesday ;) http://allbabyadvice-blog.com/index.php/fitness-tuesday/
