Days or nights out, once children come along, are hard for any couple. Since my girls have got older the weekends away at the grandparents are becoming fewer and fewer, what with play-dates and birthday parties eating into our weekends and holidays, so time ‘just the two of us’ is a premium commodity here at Essex HQ.
Every now and then though we catch a break and grab some time for us. I love a civilised dinner and few drinks as much as the next person, but when ‘date-nights’ are so hard to come by I do like to mix it us a little when we have the afternoon and evening off.
Last weekend, thanks to our lovely brother-in-law, The Essex Husband and I scored some tickets for the friends and family preview night at Thorpe Park. We rode rollercosters, talking and giggling like it was our first date. That boy really does know how to make me belly laugh!
There is something so fun about doing things a little differently. One afternoon away doing something out of the norm for us has put a spring back in our step and provided new memories to talk about.
It may only have been an hour drive on the M25, but walking round that park, child free and without a care in the world, really did feel like a million miles away from real-life.
What a lovely way to spend an unseasonably sunny Friday in March.
