Have you seen all the amazing work Team Honk are doing for Sport Relief 2014?

To celebrate the first ever Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games taking place from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd March 2014 (where the public can run, swim or cycle their way to raising cash at over a thousand venues around the country, including the landmark events at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park) Team Honk have organised an amazingly exciting Blogger Relay.

The Team Honk Blogger Relay started in Lands End on the 12th January 2014 and will finish in John O Groats on the March 23rd.

Modes of transport include roller blading across the Humber and boating round Bristol. There will be fancy dress, onesies, bikes, scooters, planes, hiking, rafting and mountain climbing. The London leg even involves a trip round the Monopoly board for #Honkopoly.

Over 200 bloggers will be joining in. That is quite simply amazing.

I’m still not sure if I can make the London or Essex legs due to family commitments, however I will certainly find a way to offer my sporting and Sports Massage knowledge to help rejuvenate those tired legs.

Top Tips For Team Honk

Walking Technique – Walk with your head up, shoulders level and eyes focussed ahead. Contract your abdominal muscles and lift your chest to help with your posture and breathing. Touch the ground heel first and roll forward through your foot before pushing off to start another step. This reduces the risk of shin splints and tendon pulls

Keep Hydrated – It is important to ensure you are hydrated before, during and after exercise to avoid injury or dehydration. It’s important that you don’t wait until you feel thirsty before you drink – by then, it’s too late and you will already be dehydrated. If you’re exercising for less than an hour, water is all you need to keep you hydrated. If you’re exercising for longer than an hour, sports drinks that contain carbohydrate or even just squash, can help you keep going as the sugar provides extra fuel.

Shoes - Ideally choose a comfortable pair of shoes designed for the specific activity of walking or exercise. You can even get orthaheel technology in normal shoes now as well if sports shoes don’t really suit your chosen fancy dress outfit.  Also gel heel inserts ease heel pressure on your feet if you have an extra long leg of the relay to cover.

Have Fun – This is the most important tip. Have fun and enjoy it! GO TEAM HONK
