It would appear Fancy Dress Parties are back.

Did I miss the memo? Was there something on the news?

They are everywhere.

It’s not children’s parties we are talking here, I’m talking adults.  Full grown, should know better by now, adults.

30th birthdays appear to be the main source of the problem.  Maybe there is a link between a desire not to grown old and the need to have a party that recaptures your youth.  If that is the case I vote for a football party, or going to Dukes for £20 all you can drink and grabbing cheesy chips on the way home.

Anything to avoid having to dress up as a power-ranger and have ‘fun’.

Yes. I’m a killjoy.

A mum-friend of mine made a good point this morning over coffee “I don’t get out much anymore, so when I do I want to wear something nice’, that’s fair enough if you ask me.

My next fancy dress party to attend is Disney themed. We are going as a family so I am thinking I can be Alice, The Essex Husband as The Mad Hatter and the girls can go as playing cards. Simple for me, blue dress and white apron, although I may struggle with the blonde hair. There are a gorgeous range of hair extensions from Remy on sale though which means I may be able to easily transform my hair with a great hair piece - that could be fun!

I just don’t understand where the idea has resurfaced from.  These parties are like flying ants, don’t see them for years and then the next thing you know you can’t move for treading on them.

I’ve got off easy though.  One invite I have seen pinned to a friends fridge clearly states on the bottom that ‘if not enough effort is made with your costume you will not be grated access to the venue’. Who died and made her Queen of the world??

When my 30th comes around in May I will be having a party but I promise there will be no fancy dress required.

There may be a dance off though….Run DMC style.

I am never too old, or boring, for that!
