Spring and Autumn, the seasons of anticipation. Whether its waiting for the first daffodil to bud or the first Christmas song to play, there is a tingling in the air that fills all who allow it with childlike excitement.

Autumn is a time to slow down. Fitting in perfectly after the buzz of the summer, yet before the rush of presents and parties that winter brings. Autumn is like that part of the wedding post speeches where you can just relax and restock before the first dance commences.

Autumn Walks

After saying goodbye to the summer, it was time to embrace new season upon us. Out came the waterproofs and fleeces, boots dusted off and gloves paired up. Our Sunday afternoon autumn walk and roast dinner regime was to be resurrected. Born out a of a marital compromise, The Essex Husband likes a roast dinner on a Sunday and I like to get out and see the countryside, our ‘Sunday Walk and Roast Dinner’ has become somewhat of a family tradition.

Now this year with another pair of tiny legs strong enough to leave the buggy behind and join us on foot for our autumn walks, life feels complete.

It really is the everyday things that mean the most when you have children isn’t it?

I love Autumn and was getting into having the heating on and snuggling inside when the blinking Summer decided to come back. Although it’s not even sunny, it’s just really muggy. I think tomorrow it is going to be 23 degrees! x

As you say – each season has it’s merits. I love the idea of your ritual of the Sunday compromise you have, such a great way to ensure everyone in the family is happy. Thanks for linking up and sharing your thoughts and photos with Country Kids.

Aww lovely photos!! Looks like lots of special family time x

  4. We have a Sunday roast lunch and then outside tradition too – definitely something I’ve brought with me from my own childhood. Somehow having Sunday lunch sets it apart from the rest of the week, and as chief cook I’m not going to object to having done the main meal of the day so that we can all relax and enjoy the afternoon. Your little ones look like they’re having a wonderful time out and about in the woods – I’d swear I could smell the leaf mould!

  5. We had the same today, with N going out not once but twice for walks without the buggy. Achievable if outside in the fields etc, but not in a town!

I never thought that I would ever like to ‘go for a walk’ but now practically every weekend I say ‘Come on guys lets go for a walk!’ I love getting them out and about in the fresh air- it’s free, burns energy and like you say it really is the every day things that mean the most. x

I love walking at this time of year but adding a Roast Dinner in seems like a pretty good compromise! It’s great to spend time as a family away from everything and I love that we don’t have to take the pushchair everywhere too. Looked like it was enjoyed by everyone x
