Essex And The City – June 29th 2012

Hello, welcome to the next weekly column from An Essex Wife.  Just a little place to share with you my weekly outings, musings and general chit chat.  Enjoy.

There is no denying I’m an Essex girl, my accent, my postcode and my occasional subtle glow of orange gives that away at first glance, however my roots are well and truly placed in London and I will take any excuse to head back up to the big smoke.

This week’s Essex and The City is certainly more City than Essex.  I spent last weekend in town at the Britmums Live Conference.  A weekend away from the children is always fun, the hangover the occurs from getting a little over excited with the freedom you have acquired and maybe having one too many glasses of wine, not so much.  I laughed, I learnt and I even cried a little, but it’s all a learning curve and now with two blogging conferences under my belt I have my eyes fully opened to the world I am entering in to.

I was pleased to see that Essex survived for 2 days without me, and promptly rewarded it by abandoning ship once again on Wednesday to head back up to the big smoke.  Not everyday in my life starts with a photo-shoot and Sara Cox, but I kind of wish it did.  It was a whirlwind of activity that found me standing on Shad Thames watching Sara perch apprehensively on the edge of a skip filled with disused baby products. As you do. All in a days work for a radio superstar and the mums and baby range Cussons Mum and Me.  Launched this week (did you see Sara Cox talking about it on Loose Woman?) this innovative range of products, taking you through from pregnancy to toddler, is certain to be a hit. What I loved was the ‘new mum’ range (how often are us mums forgotten?) especially the dry shampoo.

My strange start to a Wednesday – photo-shoot with Sara Cox!

Running straight from here, via Tower Bridge to see the Olympic rings (I missed the lowering by 10minuites, doh) I headed west to La Cucina Caldesi Cookery School for a quick lesson with chef Paul Merret, and Total Yogurt, showcasing a sneak peek of their recipes from ’1000 ways to enjoy Total’.  They were fab, and getting to eat it over a glass of wine and blogger chat was even better.  I will be sure to share what I learnt with you all next week.

I had a few detours on the way back and did my usual ‘walking aimlessly through London’ routine pretending I am the lead in some wonderful British romcom.  It really is such an amazing, beautiful city, I could get lost in its wonder everyday if I was allowed.

Back in Essex for the rest of the week I have been enjoying the simple things, Playing in the sunshine, attending the annual Strawberry Fayre at my daughter nursery and having coffee mornings with the girls.  Doing these things never fails to remind me that as much as I love London and can get high from the buzz of being in the ‘big smoke’ my heart is, and always will be, firmly in the country.

Haha brilliant! You do the romcom thing too :)
Do you also pretend to be in a music videos or at your own concert when listening to the radio in the car?

I love the idea of this column. Sounds like you’re learning the ropes and having fun all at the same time!

And I thought the dascription of your lead-in-a-rom-com act was sweet, and very descriptive! I agree, I love London and I feel so fortunate to be so close to such an amazing city!

I love my ‘RomCom’ moments – I also have them a lot in essex when I visit Maison Talbooth. I feel a RomCom post coming on.

Blimey, you packed in way more City action than me and I live here!! It’s given me a (much needed) prod up the proverbial to get out and make a bit more use of this beautiful City we call London!!

Loving the name of the column btw xx
